Nickel Tested

Nickel Tested

Nickel is a metal found in nature, naturally present in cosmetic raw materials as well. For this reason, no cosmetic product is entirely free of nickel.

The “Nickel Free” label is not technically possible. Laboratory analytical methods cannot certify the absolute absence of a substance so widespread in nature. The correct terminology in cosmetics is “Nickel Tested”: it indicates that the product has been analyzed in a laboratory to verify trace levels of nickel.

The Regulatory Framework

Cosmetic products sold in the European Union are governed by the European Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. The Regulation lists nickel in Annex II among the substances that cannot be used as a cosmetic ingredient.

However, Article 17 of the same Regulation allows for the involuntary presence of technically unavoidable trace amounts, resulting from impurities in raw materials, the manufacturing process, storage, or migration from packaging, provided that the product remains compliant with the safety requirements set by the Regulation and that good manufacturing practices are followed.

Skin First Products

All Skin First products are Nickel Tested. The “Nickel Tested” label does not mean total absence of nickel and does not guarantee compatibility with all skin types.

If you have a diagnosed nickel allergy, it is recommended to consult with your doctor to determine which products are most suitable.
