Organic

The major natural and organic cosmetic certification bodies in Europe, which oversee the standards for cosmetic product certification (Cosmos), define an organic product when at least 95% of the ingredients in its formulation consist of organic raw materials that follow strict production, extraction, purification, and processing standards. The phrase "Made with Organic", on the other hand, identifies products that contain at least 70% of organic ingredients. These are guidelines resulting from an agreement between the major bodies in EU countries. As for Italian products, the Ministry of Agriculture has recognized two certification bodies: ICEA (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification) and CCPB (Consortium for the Control of Organic Products). If you want to use products certified by these bodies, look for their logos: you will find ICEA or CCPB displayed in a circular or rectangular graphic format.

How to evaluate everything?

The problem is that guidelines and established standards should be followed to classify products as natural or organic, but unfortunately, to date, there is no harmonization among the bodies responsible for regulation.

It is also important to note that the concept of organic or natural is often contrasted with that of chemical-based ingredients, when in fact in many cases chemical processing of a substance makes the active ingredient more stable, more effective, and safer, and in certain cases more sustainable.
